When you try to promote a server running Windows Server 2016 as Domain Controller in your Active Directory Forest, you will get a wrong version of Windows Server in the DC promotion wizard. In my environnent, I promoted a Windows Server 2016 but I got an incorrect version of Windows (Technical Preview):
Cause: That’s a bug. Microsoft forgot to update the list values. Windows Server Technical Preview must be replaced by Windows Server 2016.
So you must update your Windows Server with the latest updates. Here, I check if Windows updates are available:
Just click “Install Now” and wait while Windows is applying the lastest CU:
Updates are installed, so you can re-run the DC promotion wizard and notice that the value was updated.
